Franklinton boy, 13, drowns in Livingston Parish

A teenage boy from Franklinton died Tuesday after drowning in a south Livingston Parish waterway, according to Port Vincent Police Chief Matthew Allen.
Rescue teams recovered the body of Jarrett Varnado, 13, from Gray’s Creek, near Guitreau Lane, after he was reported missing, Allen said. He was pronounced deceased by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office.
Allen said that investigators on scene learned that Varnado was swimming in Gray’s Creek when he disappeared below the surface of the water.
The Port Vincent Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident, and no foul play is currently suspected, Allen said.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 4, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and Acadian Ambulance assisted the Port Vincent Police Department.
