When the Bogalusa Police Department answered a call of complaint about a burglary of a residence in the 1200 block of Sunset Drive the evening of Friday, June 30, they came away with not only the alleged burglar, but also an additional eight arrests for drug charges, according to Maj. Percy Knight, the BPD’s public information officer.
The complainant alerted to the officers of a trail that had very clear shoe prints with a visible logo leading to the residence next door, Knight said. An officer knocked on the door and asked all the occupants of the residence to step outside so the burglary next door could be investigated. One of the suspects, Nigell Johnson, had on work boots with dirt on them and when officers checked the bottom of the boots, they had the same logo that was imprinted in the dirt near the burglarized residence, Knight said.
Officers entered the residence to do a protective sweep to look for any other suspects, and observed, in plain view, marijuana, marijuana plants and drug paraphernalia, Knight said. All of the occupants of the residence were placed under arrest for the items that were seen. A search warrant was obtained and signed by a judge before the search could be further conducted, Knight said.
Once the search warrant was signed, the search continued. Officers reportedly found marijuana packaged for sale, scales, marijuana seeds, a marijuana grinder, marijuana smoking pipes, three marijuana plants, two shot guns and one handgun.
