Bogalusa softball coach Rachael Galloway held the “Nothing But Ks” camp this week and worked with the participants on the fundamentals of softball.
Over the three days, the campers worked on throwing and receiving the ball, fundamentals of fielding in the infield and outfield and they were also taught batting, hitting and power.
“Just basic mechanics, fundamentals. We have all age groups from your beginners all of the way up to your more advanced players. Most of these are my pitchers that I work with and most of them are from the Washington Parish area,” Galloway said.
Galloway gives lessons with softball players of all age groups and different levels. The clinic had 20 participants from ages 6 through 13.
“A lot of basic mechanics with the younger ones and then more advanced drills with the older ones. Just developing what they have,” Galloway said.
The camp was originally scheduled to take place at the Franklinton Girls Association Softball Field, but weather forced the campers inside and it took place at the rodeo arena at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds.
Galloway said she was thankful to William Page for letting them use the arena.
“It came together nicely,” Galloway said. “We were able to get all of our equipment and put together the things we need for the drills. I think they’re really going to enjoy it.
“I did this last year. I wasn’t really going to do it this year. I had several parents asking and wanted me to go ahead and do it this year because last year went so well. Probably, it’ll be a yearly thing. Probably first week of summer, every year, we’ll come together and do this.”
Assisting with the camp was Franklinton High School softball coach Leslie McGhee and former Bowling Green softball coach Hollie Breland, who helped Galloway at Bogalusa this year.
