Bowling Green’s McElveen, Wager named all-stars

Two Bowling Green baseball players have one more game remaining in their high school careers.
Nicholas Wager and Brandon McElveen have made it to the MAIS AAA All-Star Game.
The contest features the AAA Blue Team going against the AAA White Team.
Wager is playing for the Blue while McElveen is on the White.
This year, the two seniors were first-team all-district players in 5AAA.
Wager hit .322 with a .412 on base percentage with nine runs batted in and 16 runs scored.
McElveen batted .351 and reached base at a .456 clip. McElveen drove in 14 runs and scored 20 runs.
The rest of the White Team includes Bayou Academy’s Jack Haynes, Brookhaven Academy’s Madison Smith, Central Hinds Academy teammates Josh Banes, Peyton Banes, Tanner Leggett and Will Neely, Heritage Academy’s Logan Sneed, Leake Academy’s Garrett Myers, Simpson Academy’s Mark Jeffrey Hubbard and Sam McWilliams, Starkville Academy’s Carter Roach, Codie Futral, Dillon Carrell and Landen Rogers and Vicksburg Catholic School’s Landon Middleton.
The head coach of the Blue is Central Hinds Academy’s Doug Shanks. He is assisted by Starkville Academy’s Brooks Roberts.
This season, Central Hinds was the Class AAA runner up. They lost to Columbia Academy in the title game. Starkville reached the second round, but lost to Columbia Academy.
The rest of the White Team has Bayou Academy’s Logan Clark, Central Private School’s Elijah Ramos, Hunter Todd and Jude Fontenot, Centreville Academy’s Britt Netterville and Dylan Cunningham, Columbia Academy’s Cam Havard, Reid Havard, Luke Mckenzie and Wiley Cleland, Indianola Academy’s Ben Van Cleve and Mitchell Pitts, Kirk Academy’s Dalton Bell and Silliman Institute’s Josh Coarsey.
The Blue’s head coach is Columbia Academy’s Heath Smith. The assistant is Central Private School’s Terry King.
This season, Columbia Academy captured the Class AAA Championship. Central Private School made it to the second round of the playoffs before falling to Bayou Academy.
The Class AAA All-Star Game takes place today at Smith-Willis Stadium in Jackson, Miss., with the first pitch set for 3:30 p.m. It is the third of three games. The AAAA All-Star Game starts at 10 a.m., with the Class A-AA contest set for 12:30 p.m. and the Class AAA game following. Admission is $10, which includes all three games.
