Bogalusa’s track and field teams are holding their second annual Track & Field Fun Day Meet on Friday at Lewis V. Murray Jr. Stadium on the campus of Bogalusa High School.
“We’re trying to build the program up to where all of the schools in the area can have a fun day at the school and compete against other schools,” Bogalusa coach Eddie Walker said.
Walker said he’s excited about the event.
“Our turnout last year was great. I expect this year’s turnout to be better,” Walker said.
The meet, which begins at 9:30 a.m., is for first through sixth graders and about 200 participated last year.
Walker said the participating schools include Bogalusa, Ben’s Ford Christian School, Annunciation Catholic School, Central Memorial School, Byrd Elementary School and Northshore Charter School.
The top seven finishers from each age group will receive an award. The three age groups are Tiny Jacks (first and second grade), the Jacks Cubs (third and fourth grade) and the Mighty Jacks (fifth and sixth grade).
Also, trophies will be awarded to the two schools that have the most athletes who participate.
The cost is $5 per athlete to compete and the registration deadline is today at 6 p.m. Registration forms can be picked up at BHS.
Fans can attend the meet. The cost is $5, at the gate.
