- One donor left a note with the donation and signed it “Blessed in Bogalusa.” In the note, the writer said, “Although the food I have prepared in this box may not be much, I pray that it gives the families nourishment … This is my first time doing this and I cried the whole time packing it, knowing I had things in my pantry that I wasn’t using and families in our community were going hungry…”
Bogalusa Help Center Director Gene Hayman said he was happy with the haul of food for the needy that resulted from Saturday’s Letter Carriers Food Drive for the local food bank.
“I can’t tell for sure, but we got maybe 5,000 pounds of food from the drive,” he said. “That’s somewhat less than previous years, but we are appreciative for everything given. It saves expenses for us and helps feed those in need.
“We had a good day at the Help Center. It’s hard to tell just how much food came in, but it’s wonderful, and will feed many families in the coming weeks. We are truly blessed. We want to thank all the donors and the postal folks and helpers.”
Bogalusa Postmaster Carl LeBouef said the “postal folks” were pleased as well.
“It went well, and all of our employees are happy to help,” he said.
