Louisiana State Police Troop L is investigating a two-vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality on LA Hwy 25 near Cypress Road on the evening of September 5. The collision occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. and claimed the life of 51-year-old Teresa Brown-Garcia of Jayess, Mississippi.
According to the preliminary investigation, Brown-Garcia was driving a 2015 Kia Forte northbound on LA Hwy 25 when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail. The Kia then re-entered the roadway, crossing the southbound lane and colliding head-on with a 2020 Ford Taurus traveling southbound.
Brown-Garcia, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained severe injuries and was transported to a hospital. Toxicology samples were collected from both drivers as part of the investigation’s standard procedure.
Louisiana State Police reminded the public of the importance of seatbelt use, noting that state law requires all occupants in a vehicle to be appropriately restrained at all times.
