Summer Track Club registration begins Thursday

Registration for the TCB Summer Track Club will begin Thursday, May 11.

In association with the AAU Track and Field and the United States of America Track and Field Association, the TCB track schedule has already been approved. The first meet is set for Saturday, May 27 at West Harrison High School in Gulfport, Miss.

Ages 5-19 are eligible to participate in the track club.

The first official track club meeting is being held May 11 at 6 p.m. at the Bogalusa High School Buck Jordan Football Field House. Items the TCB will offer will be discussed, including national membership to the AAU and USATF.

Youth Track & Field Fun Day

The Bogalusa High School track and field teams are hosting their second annual Track & Field Fun Day Meet on Friday, May 19, at Lewis V. Murray Jr. Stadium on the campus of Bogalusa High School at 9:30 a.m.

The meet is open to all surrounding area youths. First through sixth graders are eligible to compete.

The participation fee is $5.

Registration forms can be picked up from each school.

Medals will be awarded to the first-place winners. Ribbons will awarded to those finishing from second to seventh place. Trophies will be awarded to the top two schools with the most participants.

The age groups are the Tiny Jacks (first and second grade), the Jacks Cubs (third and fourth grade) and the Mighty Jacks (fifth and sixth grade).

The registration deadline is Wednesday, May 17, at 2 p.m. There will be no signups the day of the meet.

Fans can attend the meet. Admission is $5, which is payable at the gate.

Milltown Classic coming up

The 21st Milltown Classic 5K walk/run race will take place Saturday, May 27, at Cassidy Park in Bogalusa.

The race, which begins at 8 a.m., benefits the service projects of the Bogalusa Rotary Club.

Participants receive a T-shirt.

The cost is $15 if preregistered by Thursday, May 25.

Raceday signups are $20. Children 12-and-under cost $10.

Trophies will be awarded for each 10-year age group.

Shoot for Success Basketball Camp

The Shoot for Success Basketball Camp will take place at Franklinton High School from June 21-23, for third through eighth graders.

The clinic, which costs $60, runs from 8 a.m. until noon the first two days and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. the final day. Campers must be signed up and paid by June 2.

The cost includes T-shirt and lunch/food for all three days.

The camp will work on the basic fundamentals of basketball and promote teamwork and competition. Participants will work with all Franklinton High School coaches and current Demons’ players.

There will be practice sessions the first two days of the camp. On the final day, participants will play two five-on-five games and there will be a guest speaker. The teams will be based on age and skill level.

Parents and fans may attend the games. Each camper receives two tickets for entry. Admission is $3 without a ticket.

Raider Basketball Camp

The 2017 Raider Basketball Camp will take place June 12-15 in Pine High School’s gym from 9 a.m. until noon each day.

The clinic, which is for kindergartners through sixth graders, will focus on basketball fundamentals.

The cost is $65 and the registration deadline is Wednesday, May 31. Each child will receive a basketball and a T-shirt if they are signed up on time.

Legends All-Pro Football Camp is in June

The 14th annual Legends All-Pro Football Camp will take place Thursday, June 15, at Lewis V. Murray Jr. Stadium on the campus of Bogalusa High School.

The event, which runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., will feature former Cleveland Browns player Michael Jackson.

The camp will also have NFL players Robert Smith and Sean Smith, Nichols State University coach Greg Greeley, former Southeastern Louisiana University player Kenneth McSwain and Bogalusa head football coach David Roberts.

The camp director is Bogalusa assistant football and baseball coach Bruce Plummer, who is a former NFL player and scout.

Sports Work Academy Basketball Camp occurs in June

The Sports Work Academy Basketball Camp will be held Saturday, June 17, at the Bogalusa YMCA gym.

Registration for the 11th annual event begins at 8:30 a.m. that day and costs $20.

This year’s coaching staff includes camp directors Michael Galloway and Nakita Wilson, coaching staff captain Murrell Galloway, and special guest coaches Bradford T. Brown, Orlando Lundie and Monio Mark II.

Michael Galloway is a 1985 Bogalusa High School graduate while Wilson is a former player with LSU and the Portland Trail Blazers. Murrell Galloway is a 1981 Bogalusa High School graduate. Brown, a 1988 Bogalusa High School graduate, is the CEO of Bradford Speaks Life Management, while Lundie is a former Bogalusa High School three-sport star who graduated in 1983 from Bogalusa High School and played at Mississippi State University. Mark is a former star at SUI Ross State University.
