Pine competes in regionals

Pine competed in the Region 3-2A Meet, which took place Wednesday, April 26, at Southeastern Louisiana University.
In order to qualify for regionals, athletes had to finish in the top four of their events at the district meet. The regionals allow athletes to qualify for the state meet. To reach state, athletes had to come in the top three of their events at regionals.
At the regional meet, Evan Sinopoli was in three events — the 110-meter hurdles, the 300 hurdles and the long jump.
He was seventh for the long jump and eighth in the 110 hurdles. His long jump distance was 19 feet, 9.5 inches and he ran the 110 hurdles in 17.91 seconds. Springfield’s Damariae Claiborne won the long jump at 21-11.5 and West St. John’s Marcus Boudoin was the 110 hurdles winner at 14.28.
Joe Whaley was 16th in the javelin with a throw of 91-10. St. Thomas Aquinas’ Will Hetzinger won at 167-11.
Isidore Newman the team competition with 122 points, as 17 teams scored at least one point.
St. Thomas Aquinas was second at 99 points, followed by West St. John’s 66, Archbishop Hannan’s 44 and Riverside Academy’s 41.
