BHS’s Thompson qualifies for state meet

KENTWOOD — Bogalusa’s Clydeterrious Thompson advanced to the state meet during last Wednesday’s Region 3-3A Meet that took place at Jewel Sumner.
Thompson recorded a third-place finish in the 400 meters. Thompson ran the event in 50.69 seconds. West Feliciana’s Darius Davis won the event in 46.86.
The meet was a qualifier for the state meet. The top three finishers from each event advanced to the Class 3A state meet, which takes place Saturday at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium. In order to reach the regionals, athletes had to finish in the top four at their district meet.
Javon Tate was seventh in the long jump and triple jump. He long jumped 21 feet, 1 inch and triple jumped 40-5. Raheem Roberts took eighth in the triple jump at 39-10.5. Lutcher’s Jontre Kirklin won the long jump at 22-9.5 and Amite’s Sylvester Carrol was the triple jump winner with a distance of 42-11.5.
Jared Jackson and Jalin Lucas were ninth and 10th in the high jump, as both cleared 5-4. The tiebreaker in the high jump is fewest misses. Port Allen’s Michael Williams won the event at 6-6.
Kentrae Lewis and Jahee Roberts were sixth and seventh for the pole vault, with heights of 9-0 and 8-0. Parkview Baptist’s Dawson McCulloch won at 13-0.
Tre’Shawn Fowler was 11th in discus and 14th in shot put. His discus throw was 76-4 and his shot put distance was 26-7. West Feliciana’s Jacob Fudge won both events with a 150-4 in the discus and a 52-6 in shot put.
Raheem Roberts and Lucas were ninth and 11th in the javelin at 121-6 and 106-8, respectively. Field MVP Tzuriel Pedigo of Parkview Baptist captured the javelin with a 197-9.
Dre’Toris Mark and Jared Jackson ran ninth and 10th in the 110 hurdles with times of 19.194013 and 19.194020. Brusly’s Shongo Wilson won in 15.91.
Mark also ran 12th for the 300 hurdles and 14th during the 1,600-meter run. He ran the 300 hurdles in 47.95 and the 1,600 at 5 minutes, 45 seconds. Port Allen’s Norrise Cummings won the 300 hurdles in 40.77 and University’s Jack Moran was the 1,600 winner, with a time of 4:44.
Thompson and Tyrese Roussell ran seventh and eighth in the 200, with times of 23.51 and 23.61. West Feliciana’s Derek Turner won in 22.17.
Roussell was also ninth in the 100 at 11.62. St. James’ Tyren Jasmin was victorious in 10.96.
Bogalusa’s 4×100 team was seventh in 44.67 while the 4×200 and 4×400 teams were eighth. The 4×200 team finished in 1:36 while the 4×400 group’s time was 3:51. The 4×100 and 4×200 teams featured Thompson, Roussell, Tate and Jackson. The 4×400 squad featured Thompson, Kerry Conerly, Lewis and Raheem Roberts. Amite won the 4×100 in 42.66. West Feliciana was the 4×200 winner at 1:28 and Lusher Charter won the 4×400 in 3:30.

West Feliciana won the team competition with 114 points, as 18 teams scored at least one point. Parkview Baptist was second at 62, followed by Lutcher’s 48 and Amite’s 47 and Port Allen’s 44. Bogalusa tied Albany for 15th with seven points.
In the girls competition, Diamond Martin finished 12th in the shot put with a distance of 24-11. Jewel Sumner’s Diamond Brooks won at 38-7.
Lula Ball and Martin were ninth and 13th in the discus at 74-2 and 50-3. Port Allen’s Emily Nichols won with a throw of 113-11.
Martin and Ball were 12th and 14th in the javelin with throws of 75-10 and 67-10. Academy of the Sacred Heart of New Orleans’ Claire Moreau, the field MVP, won at 123-4.
Like Martin, Jameka Lucas made the regionals in three events. She was eighth in the 100, ninth in the 200 and 10th in the 300 hurdles. She ran the 100 in 13.52, the 200 at 28.64 and the 300 hurdles in 55.69. Prayja Bickham was 11th for the 200 after completing the race in 30.61. Lusher’s Raven Riley was the 100 winner in 16.06. Glen Oaks’ Makayla Edwards was the 200 winner in 25.16 and teammate Dayna Sterling captured the 300 hurdles in 46.15.
Samia White was 13th in the 400 in 1:16. Edwards won the race in 56.84.
Bogalusa was 10th in the 4×100 and 12th for the 4×200. The 4×100 runners were White, Bickham, Jameka Lucas and Mary Ladner.
The 4×200 team featured Ball, Ladner, White and Bickham. Lusher Charter won the 4×100 in 49.59 and Glen Oaks captured the 4×200 in 1:44.
Sacred Heart’s Mary Nusloch was the track MVP.
