Pine’s Sinopoli captures 2 events, advances in 3 at district

COVINGTON— Pine’s Evan Sinopoli won two events and qualified for three, and Joe Whaley also advanced to the regionals in the District 10-2A meet that took place Wednesday, April 19, at Christ Episcopal.
Sinopoli captured the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump. He ran the 110 hurdles in 18.28 seconds. Archbishop Hannan’s Justin Wendt was second at 18.51.
Sinopoli long jumped 20 feet, 4.5 inches to win that event. Pope John Paul II’s Shawn Henderson was second with a distance of 17-11.
The meet was a qualifying meet. The top four finishers in each event advanced to the Region 3-2A Meet, which takes place today at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Sinopoli also qualified for regionals in the 300 hurdles, after completing the race in 48.45 for second place. Archbishop Hannan’s Destin Talley was the winner in 46.44.
Whaley is headed to the regionals after taking third place in the javelin, with a throw of 104 feet, 9 inches. Pope John Paul II’s Peyton Smith won with a distance of 134-2.
Also for Pine, Ethan Sinopoli ran fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:06. Archbishop Hannan’s Victor Harvey won in 55.32.
Hunter Temples and Donavon Kreyssig were fifth and sixth in the discus, with throws of 81-8.5 and 78-3. Archbishop Hannan’s Seth Caillouet won the event at 126-1.
Kreyssig and Jakari Hart were sixth and seventh in the shot put at 31-0 and 30-2. Northlake Christian School’s Caleb Sampson posted a 48-1.5 for the victory.
Archbishop Hannan won the meet with 121 points, as four teams tallied at least one point. Pope John Paul II was second at 92, followed by Northlake Christian’s 24 and Pine’s 21.
