LSU tops Tiger Classic last week

LSU captured the 2017 Tiger Classic by 15 strokes and Brandon Pierce took fifth place in the event that took place Thursday at The University Club.
The Tigers posted a 582 for the two-round event that featured seven teams.
Southeastern Louisiana University and Arkansas tied for second at 597 each, while Texas A&M was fourth at 602 and McNeese State University rounded out the top five at 613.
Individually, Pierce was the fifth-place golfer with a 143 for the two rounds. He had scores of 75 and 68.
Teammmate Nathan Jeansonne won the event with a 135 after shooting a 67 and 68. Jeansonne won by three strokes over teammate Luis Gagne, who tallied a 72 and a 66.
Pierce has local ties to Bogalusa. His father, Chavgney Pierce, and his grandparents on his father’s side, Huey Pierce and Martha Pierce, are from Bogalusa. His mother, Rebecca Pierce, was an engineer at the Bogalusa paper mill and taught at Bogalusa High School.
LSU’s golf team is back in action this weekend for the SEC championship. The tournament rounds are from Friday, April 21, through Monday, April 24, at the Sea Island Golf Course in St. Simons, Ga.
