Bogalusa captures District 7-3A title

Bogalusa won the District 7-3A championship, Jared Jackson Jr. was victorious in two events, Clydeterrious Thompson captured one and a host of Lumberjacks advanced to regionals at the District 7-3A meet that took place Wednesday at Jewel Sumner.
The Lumberjacks scored 129 points, as five teams put up at least one point.
Jewel Sumner was second with 86, followed by Albany’s 58, Amite’s 52 and Independence’s 30.
Jackson won the high jump and 110-meter hurdles and was second in the 300-meter hurdles.
Jackson’s winning high jump was 5 foot, 6 inches. Teammate Jalin Lucas came in second at 5-4. Jackson ran the 110 hurdles in 19.26 in a close race, as Dre’Toris Mark was the runner-up at 19.38.
Jackson was also second in the 300 hurdles, running a 47.52. Mark was third in 48.23. Jewel Sumner’s Austin James won in 44.80.
Thompson was the 400 winner after running it in 53 seconds. Albany’s Bryant Hanewinkel was second at 53.31. Lucas came in fifth with a 55.44.
Wednesday’s meet was a qualifier. The top four finishers from each event advanced to the 3-3A Region Meet that is set for next Wednesday at Jewel Sumner.
Bogalusa will have numerous athletes in the regionals.
Javon Tate made it in three events, with a second-place finish in the long jump and triple jump, and he was third in the 100.
Tate long jumped 21-1.5. Amite’s Myron Dokes won the event at 22-5.5 and Raheem Roberts was fifth at 19-9.
He and Roberts qualified in the triple jump with distances of 40-8 and 39-1. Roberts was third. Amite’s Sylvester Carrol won with a jump of 41-6.5.
Tyrese Roussell and Tate are moving on in the 100, as the two finished second and third, respectively, with times of 11.57 and 11.78. Track MVP Devonta Smith of Amite won in 11.16.
Roussell and Thompson qualified in the 200 with second- and third-place finishes. They had times of 24.17 and 24.49. Smith won that event in 23.30.
Lucas and Roberts came in third and fourth for the javelin with throws of 107-2 and 106-5. Field MVP Tyler Covington of Independence was victorious at 123-5.
Kentraé Lewis and Jahee Roberts were third and fourth in the pole vault with heights of 10-0 and 8-0 to move on to the regionals. Albany’s Nipun Wadhwa won at 13-6.
Lewis also made it in the 800 with a time of 2:22 for third. James won in 2:09. Mark was sixth at 2:38.
Tre’Shawn Fowler qualified in two events, with fourth-place finishes in the shot put and discus. He had a shot put distance of 29-8.5. Jewel Sumner’s Chester Martin won at 40-10. Lucas was fifth at 28-2.5.
Fowler threw the discus 74-5. Covington won the discus at 123-5. Davin Phillips took fifth at 67-2.
Mark also advanced in the 1,600 by running a 5:48 for fourth place. Jewel Sumner’s Nick Story was the winner in 4:54. Jahee Roberts finished sixth in 6:46.
Terry Owens is moving on after a fourth-place finish in the 3,200, with a time of 12:06. Story won in 11:09. Jahee Roberts was fifth at 15:17.
All three of Bogalusa’s relay teams qualified for regionals. They all finished second. The 4×100 team ran a 45.28, the 4×200 team finished in 1:33 and the 4×400 team had a time of 3:52.
The 4×100 team included Owens, Demarcus Spikes, Lewis and Roussell. The 4×200 team featured Tate, Thompson, Jackson and Roussell. The 4×400 team had Thompson, Spikes, Raheem Roberts and Lewis.
