BHS’s Roberts runs 2nd in 100

Bogalusa’s Raheem Roberts took second in the 100 meters at the 2017 Strawberry Relays that took place Thursday at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Roberts ran the 100 in 11.32 seconds and barely missed winning the race, as John Curtis’ Cody Branch ran it in 11.28. Bogalusa’s Javon Tate ran ninth in 11.77.
Bogalusa was the only school from Washington Parish in the meet.
Tate was also fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 41 feet, 9 inches. Roberts was sixth at 39-8. St. Thomas Aquinas’ DeJuan James won at 43-4.
Jared Jackson Jr. tied Walker’s Jalen Perkins for sixth in the high jump, as both cleared the 5-10 bar. Jackson won the tiebreaker, which is fewest misses. John Curtis’ Donell Jones won at a height of 6-4.
Bogalusa’s three relay teams had two fourth-place finishes and a fifth-place finish.
The 4×100 and 4×200 squads were fourth, finishing in 45.46, 1 minute, 45 seconds respectively. The 4×400 team ran a 3:46 for fifth place.
The 4×100 team featured DeMarcus Spikes, Jalin Lucas, Jackson and Khalil Williams.
The 4×200 runners were Spikes, Jackson, Williams and Tomarkus Moses.
The 4×400 team consisted of Spikes, Kentraé Lewis, Williams and Moses.
John Curtis swept the relays, winning the 4×100 in 43.04, the 4×200 at 1:29 and the 4×400 in 3:35.
Terry Owens took sixth for the 3,200 in 11:52. Jahee Roberts was 18th in 15:18. John Curtis’ Zach Barthel won in 10:08.
Jackson was eighth in the 300-hurdles and Dre’Toris Mark was 13th with times of 46.23 and 49.32. Walker’s Landon Harper won in 40 seconds.
Clydeterrious Thompson and Tate ran eighth and 11th for the 200 with times of 23.45 and 24.22. Branch won in 22.21.
Lewis tied Covington’s Tony Alexander for ninth in the pole vault, going for 10-0. Westgate’s Cole Courtois went for 16-0 to win.
Lucas and Raheem Roberts were 15th and 16th in the javelin with throws of 105-3 and 100-3 respectively. John Curtis’ Zechariah Blake won at 174-9.
Thompson finished the 800 in 2:22 for 15th. Westgate’s Jace Peters topped the race in 2:01.
Mark and Jahee Roberts were 17th and 24th in the 1,600 with times of 5:35 and 6:35. Westgate’s Kolyn Saltzman won in 4:30.
Lewis was 20th in the 400 with a time of 1:00. Westgate’s Kayshon Boutte won in 49.54.
Tre’shawn Fowler took 21st in the discus with a throw of 68-1. Lafayette’s Hunter Merry was victorious at 165-3.
John Curtis won the team competition with 158 points, as 14 teams tallied at least one point.
Walker was second with 93, followed by Westgate’s 85.5, Covington’s 62 and St. Thomas Aquinas’ 42. Bogalusa was sixth with 29 points.
