Franklinton tennis competes against Pope John Paul II and Lakeshore

Franklinton’s girls tennis team defeated Lakeshore on the road, Wednesday, April 5, while the boys dropped their three matches. Both teams struggled in Monday’s match against Pope John Paul II at the Slidell City Courts.
In Monday’s play, in the girls competition, Gabrielle Webb suffered a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Ashley Calamari in a singles match.
In doubles, Morgan Mills/Makenzie Angelo was defeated by Victoria Calamari/Annamarie Wingerter, 6-1, 6-1. Abby Thomas/Taylor Cosse lost to Rylee Lusich/Karli Bayhi, 6-3, 6-4. Karina Alfaro/Yvone Tran suffered a 6-0, 6-1 setback to Katie Fradella/Abby Estopinal.
In the boys, Joshua Gubert lost his singles match to Henry Calamari, 6-0, 6-0.
Switching to doubles, Aaron Ignacek/Raif Branch lost to Nathan Swalley/John Leonard, 6-1, 6-1. Daylin Garrett/Jordan Catchings were defeated by Ian McManus/Ethan Adams-Harwell, 6-0, 6-0.
In their matches against Lakeshore on April 5, the girls won three lines to two.
In singles, Webb won in straight sets over Camille Landry, 6-0, 6-0. Cassidy Stewart lost her match in three sets, 7-5, 5-7, 10-6 (tiebreaker) to Cameron Farrell.
Moving to doubles, Thomas/Mills won against Mia Dolese/Katelyn Peterson, 6-1, 6-4. Alfaro/Tran also won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3 over Hailey Brown/Catherine Chenevert. Cosse/Angelo suffered a 6-0, 6-4 loss to Alix Vath/Lauren Nicklas.
In the boys competition, Gubert was defeated by Colin Scheuermann, 6-3, 6-2 in a singles match.
Moving to doubles, Ignacek/Branch lost in a tiebreaker to James Preston Furman/John Parker Furman, 2-6, 7-5, 10-5 (tiebreaker). Garrett/Catchings lost to Thomas Williams/Kahl Williams, 6-1, 6-1.
The match against Pope John Paul II capped off the regular season.
Franklinton begins regional play Monday at BREC Forest Park in Baton Rouge. If the Demons win their first match, they will advance to the state tennis tournament in Monroe the following week.
