BHS’s Ball wins field MVP at Wednesday’s District 7-3A meet

Bogalusa’s Lula Ball was the field MVP and Jameka Lucas was victorious in an event at the District 7-3A meet that took place at Jewel Sumner on Wednesday.
Ball won the javelin, was second in the discus and finished sixth in the shot put.
Ball won the javelin with a throw of 84 feet, 2 inches. Teammate Diamond Martin was second at 84-0.
Ball’s discus throw was 72-7 and Martin finished fourth at 69-1. Albany’s Abby Howell was the winner at 83-3.
In the shot put, Martin and Ball were fourth and sixth with distances of 24-6 and 21-6. Jewel Sumner’s Diamond Brooks won at 39-6.
Lucas won the 300-meter hurdles in 52.82 seconds. Amite’s Imani Blossom was second at 59.39.
Wednesday’s event was a qualifier. The top four finishers from each event moved on to the Region 3-3A Meet, which takes place next Wednesday at Jewel Sumner.
In addition to advancing in the 300 hurdles, Lucas also qualified in the 100 and 200.
She was third in the 100 with a time of 13.46. Track MVP Kayla Watson of Amite was the winner in 13 seconds. Prayja Bickham took fifth in 14.10.
Bickham and Lucas advanced in the 200 with third- and fourth-place finishes. Bickham ran a 29.32 and Lucas a 29.69. Watson won that event as well in 27.07.
Samia White was fourth in the 400 after she finished in 1 minute, 12 seconds. Amite’s Makayla Porter won in 1:07.
Bogalusa had two relay teams, the 4×100 and 4×200. Both finished in second place. The 4×100 team ran in 54.62 while the 4×200 completed the race in 1:56.
The 4×100 team had Bickham, Lucas, Mary Ladner and White. The 4×200 team featured Ball, Ladner, White and Bickham.
Ladner was sixth in the long jump at 13-7. Watson long jumped 16-6.5 to win.
Amite won the team competition with 134 points, as five teams posted at least one point.
Jewel Sumner was second with 61, followed by Albany’s 59, Bogalusa’s 57 and Independence’s 2.
