Pine’s McKenzie wins last week’s league stop

Pine’s Tanner McKenzie was victorious in the Northshore Golf League that took place at Abita Springs Golf Club on Tuesday.
McKenzie posted a 38 over the nine-hole competition. He won by a stroke over Pope John Paul II teammates Zack Barrios and Jack Legnon, who both shot a 38 to tie for second place.
Pine’s Brent Barber tallied a 40 and PJP’s Kade Dixon had a 41, as the top five places were separated by just three strokes.
The event featured 17 golfers.
Also locally, Varnado’s Jonathan Fornea had a 60 to finish eighth.
Pope John Paul II won the team competition with a 182. Doyle was second with a 263. Two teams were eligible to win the team competition.
The top four golfers’ scores were used to determine team honors.
St. Thomas Aquinas’ Brooklie Hollis won the girls’ competition with a 54, as five golfers competed.
Pine’s Allison Stuart was second with a 63, followed by Springfield teammates Shelby Chander and Lanie Chandler, who had a 64 and 68 respectively, and Varnado’s Emily Boudreaux, who tallied a 72.
Springfield shot a 132 and was the only team eligible for team honors. Only the top two golfers from each team qualify for the team score.
