Franklinton lifters compete at state

Several Franklinton powerlifters took showcased their power at the Division II State Meet on Saturday at Fant-Ewing Coliseum on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
In the boys competition, Stevie Thompson tallied 1,010 pounds in the 165-pound weight class. He squatted 370, benched 240 and deadlifted 400.
Abbeville’s Jose Pedroza is the 165-pound weight class state champion with 1,470. Pedroza was also the best lifter for weight classes 114-165.
Joe Magee and Josh Gubert were seventh and ninth respectively for the 242s.
Magee lifted 1,135 total with a 455 squat, 240 bench and 440 deadlift.
Gubert squatted 440, benched 240 and deadlifted 405 for a 1,085 total.
Tioga’s Jared Nugent is the state champion with 1,475.
Alex Kennedy and Josh Brewster were fifth and sixth in the 275s.
Kennedy lifted a combined 1,050 with a 355 squat, 280 bench and 415 deadlift. Brewster was had a 995 total. He squatted 415, benched 185 and deadlifted 395.  Tioga’s Cam Frederick won with 1,380 total.
Assumption’s Melvin Young was the best lifter for the 181-super heavyweight classes.
Abbeville won the team competition with 59 points, as 13 teams posted at least one point.
Tioga was second at 38, followed by Assumption’s 35.
Franklinton was 13th with one point.
In the girls, Franklinton’s Alexa Barber finished fifth with a 615 total in the 165s. She squatted 235, benched 110 and deadlifted 270. South Terrebonne’s Valerie LeBlanc is the 165 state champion with an 850. LeBlanc is the top lifter for the 165-220-plus lifters.
Abbeville’s Chelsea Baudoin is the best lifter in the 97-148 group.
Alexandria won the meet with 56 points. Pineville was next with 42, followed by West Monroe’s 29, as 11 teams scored at least a point.
