Lady Demons win 4×200 relay race at Cowgirl Relays last week

KENTWOOD — Franklinton captured the 4×200-meter relay race and several local athletes had second-place finishes in the Cowgirl Relays that took place Friday, March 10 at Jewel Sumner.
Franklinton ran the event in 1 minute, 52 seconds for the victory. The team featured Jayln Bickham, India Dickerson, Tellise Magee and Raelyn Gross.
Bogalusa (1:56) and Varnado (1:58) ran third and fourth.
Bogalusa’s team had Jameka Lucas, O’Layjha Morris, Sa’Myra White and Mary Ladner.
Bogalusa’s  Morris had a pair of second-place finishes while teammates Lucas and Diamond Martin, along with Franklinton’s Aleria Dillon, all had one.
Morris was second in the high jump at 4 feet, 4 inches and the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.21 seconds. Varnado teammates Tayler Mickens (22.54) and Kira Smith (22.76) ran third and fourth in the 100 hurdles.
Fontainebleau’s Ainsley Scott won the high jump at 4-10 and Fontainebleau’s Whitney Blocker was the 100 hurdles winner in 18.95.
Lucas took second in the long jump at 15-10. Franklinton’s Magee (15-1) was fourth and Varnado’s Mickens took sixth (14-0.5). Amite’s Kayla Watson was the event’s winner with a distance of 17-5.5.
Dillon was second in the shot put with a distance of 27-7. Franklinton’s Marlaysia Robertson was fifth at 25-11. Diamond Brooks, who won the “Outstanding Field Award,” captured the shot put at 38-9.
Martin was runner-up for the javelin at 71-9. Varnado’s Tanisha Brister (68-4) was fourth, followed by Bogalusa’s Lulu Ball (68-0) and Varnado’s Jaden Foster (60-4).
Fontainebleau’s Rebecca Pike won at 88-0.
Several more local athletes were in the top six of their events, including Ball, Martin, Bogalusa’s Prayja Bickham, Franklinton’s Gross, Jayln Bickham and Tamirria Thomas, Mt. Hermon’s Amuriel Williams and Varnado’s Jalisa Jackson.
Ball was fourth in the discus at 57-7 while Martin was sixth at 56-0. Fontainebleau’s Peyton Grace won the event with a throw of 80-1.
Bickham took third in the 200 meters with a time of 28.18. Franklinton teammates Gross (29.40) and Thomas (30.35) ran fifth and sixth, as Fontainebleau’s Ezra McCaw won in 26.34.
Gross was third in the 100 meters with a time of 13.57 and teammate Bickham finished fifth at 13.77. McCaw won in 12.44.
Williams took fourth in the 400 meters, finishing in 1:13. Varnado’s Jalisa Jackson was fifth at 1:17 and Fontainebleau’s Sydni Cowan was victorious with a time of 1:06.
In the relays, Franklinton (53.16) and Bogalusa (55.72) ran third and fourth while Varnado (1:03) was sixth in the 4×100. Amite completed the race in 51.97 to win.
Franklinton’s team featured Jayln Bickham, Mage, Jada Thompson and Gross.
Bogalusa’s group had Lucas, Morris, White and Ladner.
Varnado’s runners were Dariana Greely, Brister, Smith and Debriana Weary.
The “Outstanding Field Award” winner was Alivia Johnson.
Fontainebleau won the team competition with 214 points, as eight teams posted points.
Amite was second at 104, followed by Bogalusa (55), Jewel Sumner (49) and Franklinton (43) to cap off the top five.
Varnado (23) was sixth and Mt. Hermon (5) took eighth.
