King sweeps hurdles in Ponchatoula Relays

Franklinton’s Rodney King swept the hurdles in the Ponchatoula Relays that took place Friday, March 3.
King ran the 110-meter hurdles in 16.76 seconds and won by 0.24 seconds over Ponchatoula’s Josh Hay. King tallied a 43.83 in the 300 hurdles to top that event by 0.65 seconds over Ponchatoula’s Shawn Legroue. Franklinton’s Jasper Lasalle was fourth in that event at 54.37.
The Demons had two third-place finishes.
Sammy Smith was third in the triple jump at 38 feet, 8 inches. Steven Thompson was seventh in that event at 26-4.25. Destrehan’s Justin Jefferson won the triple jump at 40-11.
Austin Thompson threw the javelin 131-7 for third place. King was fifth at 120-0. Fontainebleau’s Chase LeMaire won with a distance of 154-4.
Smith (5-6) and King (5-6) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the high jump. The tiebreaker in the high jump is fewest misses. Destrehan’s Quinton Torbor won the event at 6-2.
Steven Thompson tallied a fourth-place finish for the long jump at 16-9.25. Ponchatoula’s Travon Washington won at 20-10.
Josh Brewer (80-6) and Spencer Lambert (73-6) finished ninth and 10th in the discus with Ponchatoula’s Travon Robertson winning at 153-8.
Carson Ragas (35-11) and Joe Magee (32-8.5) were sixth and ninth in the shot put with Destrehan’s Jalen Richard winning the event at 42-3.25.
Rondrick King (1 minute) and Jaquan Anthony (1:02) ran eighth and ninth in the 400 with Fontainebleau’s Jacob Carden winning in 51.59.
Rondrick King was sixth in the 200 at 24.58, as Destrehan’s Kristian Mosley was the winner in 22.29.
Jason Dominguez was eighth in the 1,600 with a time of 6:07. Fontainebleau’s Cody Begult finished in 4:57 to win.
Rakerian Conerly (11.83) and Tahj Magee (12.08) tallied sixth and seventh-place finishes in the 100, as Mosley was the winner in 11.22.
Franklinton finished in the team competition with 51 points.
Ponchatoula won the event with 154 points. Destrehan (129) was second, followed by Fontainebleau (119), Albany (58), Franklinton and Hammond High Magnet (14).
