Lady Bucs capture South State Tournament

Bowling Green’s Lady Buccaneers were crowned champions of the South AAA Basketball Tournament, which took place last week at Simpson Academy.
Bowling Green began the event with a 47-44 victory over Cathedral Unit School last Tuesday.
The Lady Bucs followed that up by defeating Columbia Academy, 50-37, on Friday.
Three Bowling Green players scored in double figures, including McKinley Seal, Shelby McDonald and Hollie Waskom.
Seal posted 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting. She hit her only 3-pointer attempt and both of her free throws. Seal grabbed six rebounds, dished out seven assists and made two steals.
McDonald had 13 points on 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. McDonald tallied three boards and two steals.
Waskom posted 12 points, which included a 3-pointer, along with five boards, a block and a steal.
Sydney Watson and Katelin Junkins recorded four points each. Watson had a pair of rebounds, an assist and four steals. Junkins hit both of her free throws, pulled down six boards, dished out two assists and had two steals.
Hallie Robertson added two points, three boards and a steal in the win.
The key to the game was the second quarter. The first, third and four periods’ score by quarters were one (10-9 in the first), two (13-11 in the third) and tied (6-6 in the fourth). However, Bowling Green outscored Columbia Academy 22-10 in the second quarter, which accounted for most of the margin of victory.
The win put Bowling Green in the title game.
The following day, the Lady Bucs were victorious over Adams County Christian School, 56-32.
Waskom led the way in scoring with 21 points. She hit eight of her 17 shot attempts, both of her 3-pointers and all three of her free throws. Waskom also pulled down seven rebounds, blocked two shots and made a pair of steals.
Junkins tallied 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting and she hit her only 3-point attempt. Junkins finished with four boards, three assists and a steal.
Seal and Watson recorded eight points each. Seal she hit both of her free throws. Seal pulled down a pair of rebounds, dished out eight assists and had a steal. Watson grabbed three rebounds and made a steal.
McDonald finished with three points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Callie Seal and Allie McCain had two points each. Seal posted an assist.
Robertson added a point, five boards, an assist and a steal.
Three players made the all-tournament team for Bowling Green, including Seal, Waskom and Watson.
