Varnado suffered a 73-17 loss to Merryville in the bi-district round of the Class 1A state playoffs that took place on the road Thursday.
Varnado, the 31st-seeded team, finished the season with a 3-23 record.
Second-seeded Merryville, which is 25-2, advanced to the regional round to play No. 15 East Beauregard. East Beauregard defeated No. 18 Oberlin, 53-29. East Beauregard is 17-12 while Oberlin finished with a 10-19 record.
