Six combined local basketball teams are competing in their district basketball tournaments next week.
Bowling Green School, Ben’s Ford Christian School and Pine all begin play in district tourneys next week, as the basketball season postseason is here.
Bowling Green School is the site for the MAIS District 5AAA Tournament, which features Bowling Green and Ben’s Ford Christian School’s girls and boys teams.
The top four teams in the District 5AAA Tournament advance to the South State Tourney, which takes place Feb. 14, 15, 17 and 18 at Simpson Academy.
The district tourney begins Tuesday at 6 p.m. and tips off with fifth-seeded Ben’s Ford Christian School’s girls’ team going against fourth-seeded Central Private School.
The winner plays top-seeded Bowling Green School on Friday, Feb. 10, at 6:30 p.m.
The second game that night features a boys game between fourth-seeded Centreville Academy facing fifth-seeded Central Private School. The winner goes against top-seeded Bowling Green on Friday at 7:45 p.m.
The other two games set for Friday are the No. 2-versus-No. 3 matchups.
In the boys bracket, second-seeded Ben’s Ford takes on third-seeded Silliman Institute at 5:15 p.m.
The girls bracket has second-seeded Centreville facing third-seeded Silliman.
The tournament concludes Saturday. Action gets under way with the third place games. The girls third-place contest is at 4 p.m. while the boys tip off at 5:15 p.m.
The championship games follow with the girls title contest at 6:30 p.m. and the boys championship game set for 7:45 p.m.
In the LHSAA, Pine’s boys and girls basketball teams begin play in the District 10-2A Tournament on Tuesday.
That tournament is Tuesday and Friday.
The other three teams in that district tournament are Northlake Christian School, Archbishop Hannan and Pope John Paul II.
The location of this year’s tournament is based on which girls team wins the regular season district title. There is a chance for a three-way tie between Northlake Christian (4-1 in district), Pine (3-2) and Archbishop Hannan (3-2).
Northlake Christian and Hannan play tonight while Pine is hosting Pope John Paul II.
If Hannan and Pine win tonight, there would be a three-way tie. In that case, the team with the higher ranking would host and that team is Northlake Christian.
The winner of the boys and girls tournament is declared the district champion.
