Franklinton falls to Pearl River in district

PEARL RIVER — Franklinton’s Lady Demons suffered a 7-0 loss to Pearl River in a District 5-III contest Tuesday on the road.
“I feel like we played well. The effort was there. We were just outmatched a little bit,” Franklinton coach Drew Brooks said.
The Lady Demons were in the game throughout the first half and trailed, 3-0, at halftime.
Franklinton had some scoring chances with shots they put on goal and on corner kicks, but was unable to capitalize.
The game was scoreless until the halfway mark of the first half. Victoria Stewart put the Lady Rebels on the board when she took a shot from the left side of the field and was good to give Pearl River a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.
Six minutes later, Stewart made it a 2-0 game when she went down the left side of the field again. This time she took a shot to the upper part of the goal and was good for a 2-0 lead.
About two minutes before halftime, the lead went to 3-0 on a goal by Bethany Moyle in the 38th minute.
The Lady Rebels led 3-0 at the break.
Pearl River added another goal just two minutes into the second half when Moyle took a shot from the middle of the field and got it inside of the left post for a 4-0 lead.
Stewart made it 5-0 when she went far post on her shot from the left in the 64th minute.
The final two goals came in the 68th and 75th minutes.
Mackenzie Schween scored on a ball that deflected off of Franklinton’s goalkeeper and Lindsey Moyle tallied the final goal to reflect the 7-0 final.
On Wednesday, Pearl River was victorious over Salmen, 3-0, at home in non-district action.
Megan Whitecotton recorded a goal and an assist.
Claire Harper and Natalie Gulczynski posted a goal each and Kassidy Neilson dished out an assist.
Keeper Morgan Stafford made seven saves in the shutout win.
Franklinton is 5-6-1 overall and 1-4 in district. The Lady Demons are 36th in the unofficial LHSAA Division III power rankings.
Pearl River is 10-5 overall and 2-1 in league play. The Lady Rebels are 18th in the unofficial LHSAA power rankings.
Salmen is 4-10-1 this season and is ranked 33rd in the unofficial LHSAA Division II power rankings.
