PEARL RIVER — Franklinton used a strong start and solid offensive rebounding in a 66-27 victory over Pearl River in a District 8-4A road game Friday night.
Franklinton coach Elecia Crain said offensive rebounding is something her team has been working on all year.
“Practicing against the boys has helped a lot and it’s showing,” Crain said.
The Lady Demons opened the game with the first 17 points.
Franklinton won the tip and scored when Danaria Magee passed to Kaniya Dillon for a layup and the game’s opening points.
Magee made a steal outside of Pearl River’s 3-point line and went the rest of the way before getting fouled and splitting the two free throws.
Magee, who led all scorers with 25 points, pulled down an offensive rebound and hit the follow up to make it 5-0 with 6:16 on the clock.
It went to 7-0 when Jada Thompson passed to Magee for two more and Haley Davidson passed to India Dickerson for another layup and a 9-0 advantage.
Magee pulled down two more offensive boards and added second-chance points on both and Dillon did the same to make it 15-0 with 2:17 remaining in the first quarter, and 10 seconds later, Dickerson hit a layup.
The Lady Demons led 17-0 with 2:07 remaining.
Pearl River got on the board with 1:05 left on a pair of free throws by Annabelle Campbell, who posted eight points for the Lady Rebels.
Franklinton led 21-2 through one quarter.
The Lady Demons added to their lead past the halfway point of the second quarter, going up 31-8 with 2:18 on the clock, but Pearl River finished the first half on a 6-0 run.
The run began when Campbell hit for two with 1:57 left. Jayla Tillison, who led the Lady Rebels with nine points that included a 3-pointer, split from the line with 1:38 left and drained a 3-pointer with 49 seconds remaining.
Franklinton led 31-14 at halftime.
The Lady Demons opened the second half with the first seven points.
Franklinton got the ball first and Magee drove to the bucket for two. Dickerson, who recorded 17 points that included a 3-pointer, split from the line. Thompson passed to Magee for a layup and Magee hit for two more on a fastbreak layup for a 38-14 lead with 6:01 left.
Tillison ended the run by getting a steal, hitting a shot, getting fouled and then converting the 3-point play.
The Lady Demons led 38-17 with 5:30 on the clock. Franklinton took a 49-23 lead into the fourth quarter before outscoring Pearl River 17-4 in the 66-27 win.
