Southeastern Louisiana University’s Martavius James’ collegiate career got off to a solid start Jan. 6 at LSU.
The true freshman had another solid performance at the McNeese Indoor Invite #1 Meet on Friday, Jan. 13.
James, who graduated from Franklinton High School last May, competed in three events — two individual and one team.
James broke the facility record in the 200 meters by running the event in 22.23 seconds. He took second for the event to senior teammate Deandre Henderson, who ran it in 22.11. The previous record was 22.70.
James ran sixth in the 55 meters with a time of 6.60 in a close competition. First place was by McNeese State’s Tyler Smith, who had a 6.49 time.
James was also part of Southeastern’s winning 4-by-400 relay team that ran in 3 minutes, 23 seconds, for the victory. The second place time was 3:25.
