Franklinton tourney wrapped up last Friday

Franklinton’s basketball tournament wrapped up last Friday with four games and the boys and girls each had an all-tournament team.

Franklinton’s Darius Dawson was tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

The rest of the boys’ all-tournament team included Franklinton teammates Raisean Hart and T.Y. Pope, Bogalusa teammates Thomas Turner and Tramarcus Levi and Varnado’s Errol Varnado.

The girls all-tournament team featured Franklinton’s Jalyn Bickham, Varnado’s Jaden Foster, Pine’s Breyanna Brown, Bogalusa’s Diamond Martin and Fontainebleau’s Ciera Daniels.

The three-day tournament featured 12 games with each day having four contests each.

In Friday’s action, the opener saw Franklinton’s girls defeat Varnado, 66-24.

Jalyn Bickham had a strong game for the Lady Demons. She scored a game-high 20 points, which included a pair of threes.

She was one of three Lady Demons in double figures.

Danaria Magee posted 14 points while Kaniya Dillon recorded 10.

Hayle Davidson had eight points for Franklinton while India Dickerson put up five, Miriam Tate three and Addison Carter two.

Varnado’s Foster led her team with 10 points.

Quierra Bickham, Destiny Keys and KeOsha Mingo put up four each while Tamarya Bell added two.

Bogalusa’s boys team defeated Pine, 85-48, in the second game.

Turner led all scorers with 25 points, which included three 3-pointers.

Laster Hills tallied 18 points and hit a three while Jaylen Brickmore had 12 and Levi and Dominique Tillman posted 11. Kim McGowan posted four points and Anthony Morris added two in the win.

Ty Galloway was Pine’s leading scorer with 18 points.

Trey Cooper had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Christian Warren posted seven points while Chance Woodward and Eric Crosby had three each, Chase Cooper posted two and Kaleb Voth added one.

It was Pine’s fifth game in five days and coach Drew Meyerchick said his guys were worn out. He said they were exhausted and it showed.

The third contest was a 2-0 win by the Pine girls over Bogalusa.

The tournament ended with Franklinton defeating Varnado, 58-42.

Dawson led all scorers with 19 points that included four 3-pointers.

Pope recorded 14. Sheldon Baham posted 12 points, as all of his made shots were from beyond the arc.

Hart finished with four while Marcus Conerly had three and Jairus Bryant, Sam Smith and Zach Riley all had two.

The Wildcats had a pair of players in double figures, led by Varnado’s 12 points, which included three 3-pointers.

Andre Jones posted 10 points for Varnado.

Armontee Kemp recorded six points while Damon Kirsh had five including a 3-pointer, Xavier Moses finished with four, Ardaryl McGowan had three on a 3-pointer and James Williams put up two.
