Franklinton’s cross-country competed in the 2016 Northshore AAU Qualifier Meet at St. Thomas Aquinas.

The event was also the 3-4A Regional Cross Country Championships.

Every runner qualifies for the state meet except for those in Class 5A, so all of Franklinton’s runners qualified for the state meet. In Class 5A, the top 25 individuals and top eight teams in each regional meet qualified.

The boys and girls Class 4A cross-country state meet takes place Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. Also, Bogalusa will be competing in the Class 3A state meet, which is on the same day at the same location.

In the boys, Franklinton’s Raisean Hart was the Demons’ top runner, finishing 30th in Class 4A with a time of 22 minutes, 16 seconds, in a field of 47.

Ryan Jenkins (22:55) took 32nd while Jaqwan Brumfield (23:33) was 37th, Cody Provost (24:24) finished 39th. Taylor Cooper (24:40), Jacob Dominguez (25:10) and Cody Jambois (25:22) were 42nd-44th and James Jones (27:07) was 46th.

Among all of the runners that participated, Hart was 82nd in a field of 115 runners. Jenkins finished 90th,  Provost was 102nd, Cooper took 106th, Dominguez and Jambois were 109th and 110th and Jones finished 113th.

Belle Chasse runners were in the top four spots of the Class 4A regional.

Denim Reeves won the event in 16:48 by just over seven seconds with Kyle Merchant runner up.

Alex Melcer (17:00) was third, followed by Alex Sucato (17:17) and Lakeshore’s Brandon Shows (17:29).

Overall, St. Thomas Aquinas’ David Anthon won the close event in 16:37.95 by less than a second over Holy Rosary School’s Alex Lewis (16:38.35).

Bell Chasse’s Reeves was third, followed by teammate Merchant and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Tristan Robertson (16:57).

Four squads qualified for team honors in the Class 4A regional. Belle Chasse won and nearly had a perfect score, as they scored 16 points. A perfect score is 15.

Lakeshore (43) was second, followed by Salmen (85) and Franklinton (120).

Overall, St. Thomas Aquinas and Belle Chasse tied with 37 points each, but St. Thomas won because their sixth runner crossed the finish line before Belle Chasse’s did so.

Ponchatoula (108) was third, followed by Lakeshore (112) and Archbishop Hannan (174), as 13 schools qualified for team honors.

Franklinton tallied 387 points for 13th place.

Franklinton had just one runner in the girls’ competition.

Tellise Magee finished 54th of 63 runners in the 3-4A regional with a time of 29:04. Overall, Magee was 113th out of 131 participants.

In the regional meet, St. Scholastica Academy had runners finish in three of the top four spots. Henly Crosby won the event in 19:25 by exactly four seconds over Lakeshore’s Haley Dean.

St. Scholastica teammates Katie Collar (20:11) and Molly McHale (20:28) were third and fourth while Cabrini’s Lauren Klemm (20:46) rounded out the top five.

Overall, Academy of the Sacred Heart were in the top two spots.

Mary Nusloch won the meet in 18:52.

Teammate Madeline Kling (19:15) was second, followed by Crosby, Dean and Mandeville’s Sarah Hooper (20:04) rounded out the top five.

Three clubs qualified for honors in the regional. St. Scholastica Academy won with 23 points, followed by Cabrini (45) and Lakeshore (64).

Overall, 10 schools qualified for team honors. Academy of the Sacred Heart was victorious with 35 points.

St. Scholastica Academy (61) was second, followed by Mandeville (76), St. Thomas Aquinas (85) and Cabrini (149).
