Bowling Green comes up short in season opener

Bowling Green School’s Lady Buccaneers came up short in a 64-60 loss to Leake Academy, in the season opener that took place in the East Rankin Academy Tournament.
Bowling Green trailed 23-12 after the first quarter, but made up ground after each of the final three periods, before ultimately coming up short. It was 35-27 at halftime and 50-43 through three quarters.
McKinley Seal and Hollie Waskom tied for the team lead in points with 21 each.
Seal, who signed a letter of intent with the University of Mobile last week, finished wtih four rebounds, four assists and a steal. Waskom grabbed five rebounds and made two steals.
Katelin Junkins recorded nine points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Cailee Fruge had four points, two rebounds and an assist. Hallie Robertson put up three points, three rebounds and an assist. Shelby McDonald posted two points, a rebound, two assists and a steal. Sydney Watson finished with two rebounds and one assist. Jayden Jenkins grabbed a rebound.
Both teams are coming off of successful seasons. They played each other in the Class AAA finals last season, with Leake coming away with a 52-41 victory.
