Bogalusa, Franklinton run in cross country meet

Bogalusa and Franklinton competed in the STA-Dutchtown Halloween Cross-Country Run that was Saturday, Oct. 29, at St. Thomas Aquinas.

The schools combined to have seven runners in the varsity two-mile race.

Bogalusa’s Terry Owens led parish runners with a 20th-place finish in the field of 57. Owens ran in 12 minutes, 3 seconds.

Franklinton’s Taylor Cooper (13:41) and Bogalusa’s Kentrae Lewis (13:42) ran 41st and 42nd, respectively.

The rest of the local finishers were Franklinton runners.

Ryan Jenkins (14:17) finished 47th, Christian Spinks (15:14) was 50th and Jordan Blackwell (15:48) and Cody Provost (17:46) were 54th and 55th.

Lakeshore’s Brandon Shows won the event in 10:50, finishing nearly seven seconds ahead of St. Thomas Aquinas’ David Anthon (10:57).

St. Thomas’ Tristan Robertson (10:57) was third, followed by Dutchtown’s Parker McBride (11:04) and St. Thomas’ Logan Lucas (11:07).

St. Thomas Aquinas won the team competition with 35 points in a five-team field.

Lakeshore finished 10 points behind for second, followed by Dutchtown (50) in a close race at the top.

Jewel Sumner (105) was fourth and Franklinton (152) was fifth.

In the girls competition, Franklinton’s Tellise Magee finished 28th with a time of 17:36.

Dutchtown’s Tata Stuntz won the race in 12:05 by just over 54 seconds, as Lakeshore’s Haley Dean (12:59) was runner up in the field of 41.

St. Thomas Aquinas’ Abby Bates (13:14) was third, followed by Dutchtown’s Melissa Landry (13:28) and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Brynleigh Berthelot (13:32) rounded out the top five.

St. Thomas Aquinas won a close team competition with 31 points by six over Dutchtown.

Jewel Sumner was third with 66 points, as three squads qualified for team honors.
