If recent history means anything, Franklinton’s District 8-4A road game against Lakeshore tonight could be high scoring.

Both teams have been putting up plenty of points, especially over the last three weeks, but have also given up their share of points.

The Demons, who are averaging 22.5 points per game, are putting up 36 points per game (108 total) in the last three weeks.

Lakeshore, which is averaging 27.5 points a contest, has a scoring rate of 36.3 (109) points per game over the last three weeks.

But both teams are allowing their share of points as well.

This season, Franklinton has allowed 35.5 points per game while Lakeshore has allowed an average of 30.2 points.

Franklinton, which enters this week with a 3-4 overall record and 1-1 record in district play, suffered a 50-34 setback to Loranger.

Franklinton coach Stephen Burris said it was the first time all year the Demons’ defense has been “gap sound,” had good coverage and were in the right spot. He said some deep balls hurt his team.

The third quarter was the key to last week’s game. Franklinton led 21-14 at halftime, but was outscored 29-7 in the third, as Loranger had a 43-28 lead through three periods.

Burris talked about the key to this week.

“Don’t give up the deep ball and finish in the red zone,” Burris said.

Franklinton is No. 24 in the unofficial LHSAA Class 4A power rankings.

This season, the Demons’ offense has been balanced. They have run the ball 210 times and thrown it 206 times.

Junior quarterback Tahj Magee is the offensive leader of the team in passing and rushing. He has completed 97-of-199 passes (48.7 completion percentage) for 1,326 yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. He has also run 126 times for 783 yards (6.2 yards per carry) and 12 touchdowns.

Mike Martin has 60 carries for 267 yards (4.5) and two touchdowns.

Jamarian Crain leads the receivers with 30 catches for 496 yards (16.5 yards per catch) and he is tied with Rakerian Conerly for the team lead in touchdown receptions with three. Since returning from an injury, Crain has 100-yard receiving games in three out of four contests.

Conerly enters tonight’s game with 16 receptions for 245 yards (15.3).

Darius Dawson has 18 receptions for 247 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Chandler Scott leads the group with 81 tackles. He is averaging 11.6 stops per game.

James Bickham and Lamount Harris both have 56 tackles, while Rodney King has 52.

Franklinton won last year’s game, 41-7.

Lakeshore enters this week with a 3-4 overall record and 0-1 record in district.

The Titans defeated Terrebonne last week, 47-45.

Lakeshore has been in several close games. Four of the Titans’ contests have been decided by 10 points or fewer. Lakeshore is 2-2 in those games.

The Titans are 28th in the unofficial LHSAA Class 4A power ratings.
