Pine’s Joey Seal threw three touchdown passes to Chris Gordon and Jakyran Handy ran for two touchdowns, in a 42-21 victory over Springfield in a District 8-2A road game Friday night.

Handy had a strong night, running 12 times for 106 yards.

“He’s run the ball hard,” Pine coach Bradley Seal said. “He’s run the ball good. We knew he was capable, but he’s probably more productive than we thought he would be.”

Handy has been very productive this season. He has run for 832 yards and has found the end zone 18 times — 17 on the ground, as well as a receiving touchdown.

Delvric Dillon had a strong game running the ball, as well. He carried the ball six times for 81 yards and a touchdown. Jarwin Jordan added 34 yards on three carries.

Quarterback Seal completed three passes, all to Gordon, for touchdowns of 88, 35 and 25 yards.

Defensively, coach Seal said that Gordon, who also plays safety, played well on defense, coming up and making a lot of tackles.

He also said that linebacker Rion Terrell also had good game.

“I was very pleased by the way our defense adjusted,” Seal said. “We got off to a slow start, but we adjusted. From about halfway through the second quarter to the end of the game, our defense played really well.”

Pine trailed 14-7 after the first quarter, but had a big second period, outscoring Springfield 21-0 in the quarter to take a 28-14 halftime lead.

The Raiders led 35-14 through three before the teams played an even fourth quarter at seven points each.

Pine is 5-2 overall this season and evened its district record at 2-2 with its second-straight win. Springfield is 0-7 overall and 0-4 in district.

The Raiders are off this week, but will return to action Oct. 28 when they host Pope John Paul II. The Jaguars enter this week’s road game against St. Helena College & Career Academy with a 2-5 overall record and a 2-1 record in district.
