Health fair a reminder for flu shots

Friday morning city employees gathered at the courtroom in City Hall for a health fair.

The fair was arranged with Our Lady of the Angels Hospital, and it provided an opportunity for employees to get their annual flu shots. Centers for Disease control recommends that anyone age 6 or older should get a flu shot by the end of October as the shot can prevent serious illness, missed workdays and potentially hospital stays.

Also, a flu shot is good for the community.

“The more people who get a vaccine, the less likely the chances of a flu outbreak,” said Chelsea Jackson, an LPN with Our Lady of the Angels, and one of the people administering flu shots Friday.

“A lot of elderly people and children are at risk of the flu,” added Sherri Bullock, another LPN.

Flu shots are available at the Washington Parish Health Unit at 626 Carolina Ave. and at Our Lady of the Angels family clinic at 420 Ave. F and at other healthcare centers.
