Raiders shut out at home

Pine lost its first game of the 2016 season to St. Helena College & Career Academy, 19-0, in the District 7-2A opener at Pine on Friday.

St. Helena scored the game’s first points in the opening quarter to go ahead, 7-0.
It stayed that way until about five minutes left in the fourth quarter when the Hawks added a rushing touchdown to make it 13-0.

About two minutes later, St. Helena brought an interception back for a touchdown to close out the scoring at 19-0.

Pine coach Bradley Seal praised the play of his defense.

“Our defense played really well for the third week in a row,” Seal said. “They’re playing winning football. They’re playing as good as they can.”

Pine is 3-1 this season. The Raiders continue in District 7-2A play Friday night when they travel to Northlake Christian School to face the Wolverines. NCS is 4-0 after a 41-6 win over Independence.

St. Helena is 4-0. St. Helena has not allowed a point in the three games it has played. The opener was a forfeit win over Amite.
