Bogalusa takes to the road this week and heads to Salmen to take on the Spartans tonight.

Bogalusa comes into tonight’s action with an 0-3 record after falling to Franklinton, 18-6, last week.

“It’s like a mirror image, us and Salmen,” Bogalusa coach David Roberts said. “Offenses are similar, defenses are similar and personnel is similar. We’re just looking forward to having a good competition.”

Bogalusa won last year’s game, 20-10, after trailing 10-0 in the second quarter.

Last week, the Lumberjacks played well defensively. They gave up two long runs — 63 yards and 32 yards — that resulted in touchdowns.

“The whole unit played well except for a couple of plays,” Roberts said.

Roberts credited his entire defense. He said the only thing his team didn’t do well was reroute Franklinton’s receivers. Roberts said the team is working on that problem, this week.

Isaac Carson intercepted a pass last week and Sal Pittman recovered a fumble.

Offensively, Thomas Turner threw for 102 yards and a touchdown and ran for 44 yards. Cordel Alexander threw for 23 yards after coming in for Turner, who left with an injury. Turner is questionable for this week. Roberts said if Turner is unable to go, then Alexander will start at quarterback, and Roberts said he has confidence in both players.

Javon Tate ran for 34 yards.

Dominique Tillman caught three passes for 34 yards while Jay Baham had five receptions for 22 yards. Jymon Jackson finished with two receptions for 25 yards and Pittman had two catches for 47 yards.

“The first half, we did decent — just too many negative plays,” Roberts said. “Thomas (Turner) played well. We completed some passes. We completed the screens and the short passes. We had some drops, but that’s something we’re working on.”

Salmen comes in with a 2-1 record and is among the teams receiving votes in the Louisiana Sports Writers’ Association Class 4A poll.

The Spartans lost to Covington last week, 42-6.

Salmen scored to take a 6-0 lead on a defensive touchdown by Jalil Robinson on a sack and fumble recovery.

Their wins have come over East Jefferson, 9-0, and Northshore, 7-3.
