Washington Parish Reservoir District board named

On Thursday, Gov. John Bel Edwards named the board members of the Washington Parish Reservoir District.

Former Bogalusa Mayor Charles Mizell was re-appointed, as were Bob Bateman, William Jenkins and D. Beryl Schilling. The other seven members are new.

The parish reservoir district was formed to study the feasibility of developing a reservoir in Washington Parish and to search for a potential site. Appointments to this board are made by the governor from nominations received by the Washington Parish President, each of the seven Washington Parish Council members, and the three members of the Washington Parish legislative delegation.

The members are as follows:

  • Charles E. Mizell Sr., of Bogalusa — Mizell was reappointed to the Washington Parish Reservoir District. Mizell is the former mayor of Bogalusa. He was nominated by Washington Parish President Richard “Ned” Thomas.
  • Michael K. “Mike” Garic, of Bogalusa — Garic is the owner and operator of Alex’s Tamale Shack and a former Bogalusa Police Department officer. He was nominated by a member of the Washington Parish Council.
  • Bob D. Bateman, of Franklinton — Bateman was reappointed to the Washington Parish Reservoir District. Bateman is retired and previously worked with the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security. He was nominated by a member of the Washington Parish Council.
  • Michael L. Melancon, of Bogalusa — Melancon is the director of revenue cycle for Our Lady of the Angels Hospital. He was nominated by a member of the Washington Parish Council.
  • Clifton E. Roberts, of Angie — Roberts is retired and previously worked at the LSU Bogalusa Medical Center. He was nominated by a member of the Washington Parish Council.
  • William A. “Bill” Jenkins, of Angie — Jenkins was reappointed to the Washington Parish Reservoir District. Jenkins is the owner of Bill Jenkins Forestry Services. He was nominated by a member of the Washington Parish Council.
  • Jason M. Creel, of Franklinton — Creel is the chief operating officer of Creel Brothers, Inc. He was nominated by a member of the Washington Parish Council.
  • James F. “Jim” Beatty, Ph.D., of Mt. Hermon — Beatty is retired and previously worked as a dairy nutrition consultant with Purina Mills. He was nominated by a member of the Washington Parish Council.
  • John E. Nichols, of Bogalusa — Nichols is retired and previously worked as a senior consultant on nuclear energy projects. He was nominated by a member of the Washington Parish legislative delegation.
  • D. Beryl Schilling, of Mount Hermon — Schilling was reappointed to the Washington Parish Reservoir District. Schilling worked in the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division for 29 years. He was nominated by a member of the Washington Parish legislative delegation.
  • Dr. Jerry A. Thomas, of Franklinton — Thomas is a family practice physician and a former member of the Louisiana state Senate and House of Representatives. He was nominated by a member of the Washington Parish legislative delegation.
