COVINGTON — The Bogalusa High School Lumberjacks took on the Northlake Christian School Wolverines in the Covington High School Jamboree on Friday, but fell to NCS by a score of 20-8.
Starting the first 15-minute half, Northlake Christian won the toss and elected to receive. The Wolverines drove 55 yards in 13 plays, but Bogalusa’s defense came up big, forcing a turnover on downs after an incompletion on fourth down.
Bogalusa punted and Northlake Christian scored on the following possession when Nick pitched to Wesley Brown, who scored from 8 yards out. Clayton Gill’s extra point was good to make it 7-0 with three minutes left.
After a Bogalusa punt, the Wolverines went up 14-0 when on a 40-yard run by Brown. Gill’s extra point was good and the margin was 14 with one minute left in the half.
Bogalusa took the ensuing drive to the NCS 40. On the final play of the first half, Thomas Turner passed to Sal Pittman. Alexander made the catch for a touchdown. Javon Tate ran in the two-point conversion and Bogalusa was within six at 14-8 at halftime.
The game’s final score came with two minutes left when Matt Whelan connected with a pass to Cross Hebert from Northlake Christian’s 30. Hebert evaded the Lumberjack defense and ran it in for the last touchdown of the game. The Wolverines attempted the two-point conversion, but it was no good.
The Lumberjacks have to forfeit their first game (which would have been Friday) because of a fight that occurred at the end of last year’s playoff game against Amite.
Bogalusa will be back in action Friday, Sept. 9, on the road against St. James.
