Pine is heading to Jewel Sumner tonight to compete in a scrimmage against the Cowboys at  5:30 p.m.

Raiders coach Bradley Seal said his team is excited about playing somebody else, because they now get to see how they stack up against live competition.

“It’s hard to gauge yourself against yourself after a while, so it’ll be exciting to go against somebody else,” Seal said.

Seal talked about what the coaches and players are looking for in the scrimmage.

“I’m anxious to see how well we’re able to run the ball on them and I want to be able to tell how our secondary will play on defense,” Seal said.

When asked about the improvement his team has made since the spring, Seal said he feels like they have a little better grasp of their offensive responsibility, He also praised his quarterback, Joey Seal.

“I think Joey has a better understanding of what we’re trying to do,” coach Seal said. “He’s a completely different player than he was last year.”

Last season, Pine went 2-7. The Raiders reached the playoffs before falling in the opening round.

Pine opens the season Friday, Sept. 2, at home against Pearl River.
