Bowling Green plays 3 close games in tourney

Bowling Green played a trio of close games in the Copiah Tournament, which took place Saturday.

The contests were on a 75-minute time limit.

Bowling Green lost the first contest, 3-1, against Silliman Institute.

Casey McClain recorded a hit and drove in Caille Fruge for the Lady Buccaneers’ only run. Fruge had a hit.

Breanna Tobey and Shelby McDonald both had a hit for Bowling Green.

The second contest was a heartbreaking loss to Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

Bowling Green led 3-2 in the last inning, but Madison-Ridgeland loaded the bases and hit a walkoff grand slam.

Tobey finished with a hit and an RBI.

Fruge posted two hits while McClain and McKinley Seal both logged a hit. McDonald and Katelin Junkins drove in a run each in the contest.

The Lady Buccaneers rebounded in their final contest by defeating Parklane Academy, 6-2.

McDonald had a two-run double while Junkins posted an RBI double. Seal and Tobey recorded one hit each and McClain drove in a run.

“I think we played really well and played we some very good teams,” Bowling Green coach Meghan Dyer said. “We hung in with all of these teams.”

Bowling Green played after yesterday’s press time.

The Lady Buccaneers are back in action tomorrow against Central Private School at home.
