Bogalusa’s 13-to-14-year-old all-stars came up short in their quest to reach the Southwestern Regional, as the squad finished third in the 2016 Little League International Tournament at Fabacher Field in Lafayette.

Bogalusa began the double elimination tournament, which took place from Friday-Monday, with an 11-5 victory over Avoyelles American on Friday.

The team, which had a 1-2 record, had to endure rain delays Saturday and lost their contest 12-4 to Lafayette.

Despite the score, the game was a lot closer. Bogalusa trailed just 5-2 after four innings, but Lafayette scored seven runs in the top of the fifth in the 12-4 win.

The loss meant that Bogalusa was in an elimination game Sunday. The all-stars ended up falling to Shreveport, 8-4.

Bogalusa trailed 4-2 after five innings.

Bogalusa coach Spade Morris said the team struggled with walks and errors. He said that at the plate, they did a good job getting people on base, but were unable to get the timely hits.

Morris spoke highly of his team’s effort.

“The kids put the work in and I would like to commend them for the fight and their efforts,” Morris said. “None of them gave up and that’s a good thing. We just fell short.”

Morris also said he is thankful for the parents and supporters who came out and supported the team.
