Saskatchewan Roughriders’ linebacker Otha Foster III faced his former team Friday night, but his current team suffered a 39-36 loss in overtime at Edmonton in front of 34,196 people.

Foster, who was part of a Grey Cup championship with the Eskimos last season, recorded four tackles in the contest.

This season, the 2006 Varnado High School graduate has seven total tackles — five defensive and two on special teams.

The game featured plenty of offense. Edmonton finished with 492 yards while Saskatchewan posted 391.

Much of the yardage was through the air. Edmonton threw for 378 yards to the Roughriders’ 317.

Both teams had four passing touchdowns.

The Roughriders led 36-33 late in the fourth quarter, but the Eskimos tied the game on a 51-yard field goal by Sean Whyte with four seconds remaining regulation to send the contest to overtime tied at 36-36.

In CFL overtime rules, each team gets a possession 35 yards from the end zone. The Roughriders won the toss and chose defense. Edmonton kicked a field goal from 32 yards out.

The Roughriders moved the ball to the 26, but were unable to convert on third-and-1, which ended the game.

Saskatchewan is 0-2 early in the season. The Roughriders are back in action and go for their first win of the 2016 campaign Saturday, July 16 when they face the B.C. Lions at home.
