Foster plays opener with Saskatchewan Roughriders

Otha Foster III played in his first regular season game with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League last week.

The 2006 Varnado High School graduate, who plays linebacker, recorded three total tackles. He had one defensive stop and two special teams tackles.

The Roughriders, who had a bye in the opening week, lost their regular season opener to the Toronto Argonauts, 30-17.

Toronto, which evened its record at 1-1, had a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. The Roughriders trimmed the deficit to 21-10 by halftime and 21-13 in the third quarter before falling 30-17.

Foster is in his third season in the CFL. He signed with the Roughriders in February after spending his first two seasons with Edmonton.

Last year, Foster was part of the Eskimos’ Grey Cup championship.

For his career, Foster has 103 defensive tackles to go with nine on special teams. He has three sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and has scored two touchdowns.

Foster is coming off a season when he finished with 57 defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, two sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and a touchdown.

The Roughriders are back in action tonight with a contest against Edmonton. The Eskimos enter the game with an 0-1 record.
