Franklinton defeats Lakeshore, loses close contest to Mandeville

Franklinton recorded a 1-1 record in the Mandeville Summer Basketball League on Tuesday at Lakeshore with a win over Lakeshore and a loss to Mandeville.

The Demons won the first game 59-48,

Darrius Dawson led the Demons with 17 points.

T.Y. Pope recorded 15 points and Sam Smith posted eight for Franklinton.

The second contest was a 43-40 loss to Mandeville.

Pope and Dawson were both in double figures.

Pope was the Demons’ top scorer with 16 points and Dawson was just two points behind at 14.

Franklinton coach Brad Oestriecher spoke about the day.

“Overall we played much better and I hope to keep seeing improvement,” Oestriecher said.

Franklinton played again yesterday. The Demons are back in action Tuesday at St. Paul’s with games scheduled against the two St. Paul’s teams at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The league features a pair of 20-minute halves with a running clock for the opening 19 minutes of each half. In the final minute, the standard clock operation rules go into affect with the clock stopping on every whistle.
