Franklinton came back to beat Lakeshore, but fell to Chalmette in Thursday’s action of the Mandeville Summer Basketball League at Lakeshore.

The first contest was a 60-48 victory over Lakeshore.

The Demons trailed 30-24 at halftime and the Titans extended the lead to 39-32 by the 13:37 mark of the second half.

Franklinton trimmed it to 45-40 with 8:03 remaining and then the Demons turned things up on defense.

“We just kept fighting. We were struggling,” Franklinton coach Brad Oestriecher said. “We were down about 6, 7 the whole game and we picked it up on the defensive end, created some turnovers and that was the difference.”

With Lakeshore leading, 45-40, the Demons went on a 20-3 run.

Sam Smith, who had 11 points, began the run by hitting a shot and getting fouled. He missed the free throw, but Dijimon Jenkins grabbed the offensive rebound, which led to a T.Y. Pope jumper. The Demons were within one with 7:37 left.

Then Sheldon Baham came to the forefront. He gave the Demons the lead by hitting a 3-pointer with 5:37 left. After a Franklinton steal, Baham, who scored 10 points, knocked down another three and the Demons were in front, 49-45.

Darrius Dawson, who recorded seven points, made it a six-point game with a fast-break layup and Baham was good on layup for a 53-45 advantage with 3:19 left.

Neither team scored until the 1:02 mark when Dawson found Zach Riley for two. Lakeshore hit a three with 39 seconds left, but Franklinton closed out the 12-point victory with a Riley passing to Pope for an alley-oop layup and Pope was good on a 3-point play with 8.2 seconds left to conclude the scoring.

Pope, who was one of three Demons in double figures, led the team with 16 points.

Resean Hart had eight points for Franklinton while Jenkins and Riley had four each.

In the Mandeville Summer Basketball League, teams play two 20-minute halves with a running clock until the one-minute mark. At that point, the clock stops on every whistle. Each team has one timeout per half. Games are played at Lakeshore, St. Paul’s School and Mandeville.

Franklinton lost the second game of the day to Chalmette, 73-54.

The Demons are 2-2 in the league.

Franklinton is back in action Tuesday at Lakeshore and plays against Mandeville and Lakeshore at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
