Franklinton began the Mandeville Summer Basketball League by going 1-1 in Tuesday’s action at St. Paul’s School.

The Demons lost the first game to Mandeville, 53-46.

“Our guys got a little tired,” new Franklinton coach Brad Oestriecher said. “We had guys who aren’t used to playing those kind of minutes playing and we kind of got worn down.”

Darrius Dawson led the Demons with 15 points while Sam Smith recorded 12.

The second game went much better for Franklinton.

The Demons trailed 35-31 to Pearl River, but came back to capture a 66-49 victory to even their record at 1-1.

“We were down by four at halftime, and the second half we came out and played like the team I know we have,” Oestriecher said.

Franklinton had three players score in double figures. Dawson led the way with 14 points. Zach Riley put up 12 and T.Y. Pope recorded 10 in the victory.

The league features some rules that are a little different. Team play two 20-minute halves with a running clock for the first 19 minutes of each period. The game goes back to standard clock operating procedures in the final minute of each half, as the clock stops on every whistle. Each team is allowed one timeout per half.

Games in the league are being played at Lakeshore, St. Paul’s School and Mandeville.

Franklinton played a pair of games yesterday at Lakeshore.

The Demons will be back in action Tuesday, June 7, at Lakeshore. Franklinton faces Mandeville at 5 p.m. and Lakeshore at 7 p.m.
