Golden Eagles advance to the semis

The University of Southern Mississippi advanced to the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament by defeating Old Dominion University on Tuesday and Marshall on Wednesday at USM.

The No. 3-seeded Golden Eagles were victorious over ODU, 17-5, and they defeated Marshall 9-3.

In the opener, 2011 Franklinton High School graduate Clay Tageant threw a scoreless inning, lowering his ERA to 0.84. Tageant has allowed one run over 10-2/3 innings in 13 appearances, all out of the bullpen. Opponents are hitting just .167 against him.

The win put Southern Miss’ record at 38-18. They will play in the semifinals today at 12:30 p.m. against either Marshall or Florida International University. Marshall and FIU played in an elimination game last night after press time.
