Franklinton’s Porsha Delatte set a personal record and was the third best Class 4A 100-meter hurdler at the state meet last Saturday afternoon at Bernie Moore Stadium, capping off her first year of running the hurdles.

“I was very happy of what I placed in because this is my first year of doing hurdles,” Delatte said. “I was pretty surprised. I put a lot of hard work in it and my heart was fully into the hurdles.”

The sophomore ran the race in 16.29 seconds. Ursuline Academy’s Alysia Terry is the state champion with a time of 15.10. She won by 0.28 seconds over Crowley’s Jalaysia Hebert.

Delatte said the LSU track felt special because she was running in front of a lot of different people.

“It was different because we were running in the middle of the track. My friends and family were there supporting me and there were a lot of people in the stadium. It was a very different atmosphere,” Delatte said.

Delatte said this year’s experience will help her out tremendously.

“I know what time I should beat,” Delatte said. “The time I’m aiming for next year in the 14s.”
