Bogalusa’s Rankins qualifies for state

Bogalusa’s D’Sha Rankins made it to the state meet at last Wednesday’s Region 3-3A Meet, which took place at Jewel Sumner.

Rankins qualified for the state meet in the shot put by finishing in the top three. Rankins tallied a third-place finish with a distance of 36 feet, 3 inches.

Jewel Sumner’s Breashlee Jones was the winner at 38-11.

Those who reached the regional meet had to come in the top three of their event in order to make it to state. The Class 3A state meet takes place Saturday, May 7, at Bernie Moore Stadium on the campus of LSU.

Also in the girls competition, Lulu Ball was 13th in the triple jump (25-11). West Feliciana’s Kia Coleman triple jumped 35-8.5 to win.

O’Layzha Morris tied St. Katherine Drexel’s Khloe Colar for in 10th for the high jump (4-6). Field MVP Claire Moreau of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans, won at 5-4.

Lulu Ball (75-8) and Rankins (62-9) were seventh and 11th in the discus, as St. James’ Phyllicia Lawrence won at 103-3.

Diamond Martin (87-1) and Ball (68-0) were seventh and ninth in the javelin. Moreau threw a 129-7 for the win.

Bogalusa’s 4×100 team (53.18 seconds) was eighth, the 4×400 (4 minutes, 39 seconds) was ninth and the 4×200 (1:52) took 10th.

The 4×100 and 4×200 teams featured Morris, Jameka Lucas, De’Erica Myers and Asia Nelson. The 4×400 team had Lucas, Martin, Morris and Myers. West Feliciana (49.70) won the 4×100, Lusher Charter (1:42) was the 4×200 winner and Glen Oaks (4:08) captured the 4×400.

Lucas ran eighth in the 100-hurdles (21.27), as St. James’ Kaylin Martin won in 16.36.

Bogalusa’s Dymon May was 14th for the 800 (3:17). Lusher’s Aislinn Roberts topped the event at 2:27.

Myers was seventh in the 400 (1:06), as Lusher’s Ry-anne Riley was the winner at 56.92.

Lucas was 10th in the 300-hurdles (54.47). West Feliciana’s Jene’t Campbell won at 47.44.

Morris took 11th in the 200, as track MVP Taylor Shaw of Brusly won at 25.05.

Bogalusa finished 12th in the team competition with six points.

Lusher won with 102 points, as 17 teams scored at least one point.

In the boys, Bogalusa’s Malon Robertson was sixth in the pole vault (10-6), seventh in the long jump (20-6.75) and triple jump (40-3.75), 11th during the high jump (5-8). Field MVP Jontre Kirklin of Lutcher won the long jump at 23-5.5, Lusher’s Ryan Theyard was the triple jump winner with a distance of 47-5, Parkview Baptist’s Brennan Dorsey topped the high jump at 6-6 and University High’s Ashby Woolf won the pole vault at 12-0.

Daniel Fairley was sixth in the sixth for the discus (113-3) 10th in the shot put (37-4.25). West Feliciana’s Ricky Chatman won the shot put at 50-1.75 while teammate Jacob Fudge was the discus winner at 132-3.

Bogalusa’s 4×200 relay team (1:37) and 4×400 (4:01) were 10th while the 4×100 squad (46.15) was 12th.

The 4×100 and 4×200 groups had D’Angelo Mark, Tyrese Roussell, Javon Tate and Clydeterrious Thompson while the 4×400 team featured Thompson, Kentrae Lewis, Raheem Roberts and Demarcus Spikes.

Terry Owens was 11th in the 1,600 (5:33) as track MVP Austin Ballow of Sumner won in 4:27.

Roberts (20.88) and Dre’Toris Mark (21.91) ran 10th and 12th in the 110-hurdles. Port Allen’s Norrise Cummings won in 16.07.

Tate was 14th in the 100 (12.14), as Amite’s Milton Sanders topped the event in 11.02.

Lewis posted a 10th place finish in the 800 (2:22), as Sumner’s Austin James won in 1:58.

Thompson was 10th in the 400 (54.10). West Feliciana’s Darius Davis won in 49.05.

Roussell (47.03) and Roberts (47.22) were ninth and 10th place during the 300-hurdles, as Lutcher’s Joseph Weathersby won at 41.02.

Thompson was 12th for the 200 (24.31) with West Feliciana’s Derek Turner winning in 21.54.

Owens was 12th for the 3,200 (12:35). Ballow won in 9:55.
