Varnado’s Wildcats had their season come to a close in the bi-district round of the playoffs Wednesday with an 11-1 road loss to St. John of Plaquemine.

Armontee Kemp had a hit in both of his at bats. He also stole two bases and scored a run.

Errol Varnado posted a hit and a walk.

“Early in the game I felt like both teams were evenly matched,” Varnado coach Blake West said. “It was a 3-1 ball game through the first three innings. As the game went on I felt St. John just did a better job of working out of jams, keeping our base runners from crossing the plate, which allowed them to pull away late.”

No. 22 Varnado caps off an 11-13 season.

“Overall, I feel this has been another successful season for us,” West said. “Reaching the post-season for the second consecutive year and posting the most wins for a single season in Varnado history is something we are definitely proud of accomplishing. We look to continue our program’s success next season, building on the accomplishments of this season.”

This year’s seniors were Isaiah Alexander, Jermaine Sanders, Deroldrick Jefferson, and Dearius Parker.

“Many of these seniors have been on the team since the start of the baseball program here at Varnado and have contributed greatly to program over the past several years,” West said. Their leadership and dedication to the program is something as a coach and as team we will miss next year going forward.”

No. 11 St. John moves into the regional round to face sixth-seeded Vermillion Catholic. Vermillion defeated No. 27 Crescent City, 10-0.
