Mt. Hermon’s Gerald Bunch is going to compete for a state championship in track and field.

Bunch finished in the top three in a pair of events at the Region 3-B meet on Tuesday at Welsh High School.

Bunch was victorious in the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 5 inches and he ran the 200-meters in 23.78 seconds to capture the event.

In order to qualify for state, the athletes had to come in the top three of the events. The Class B state meet takes place Thursday, May 5, at Bernie Moore Stadium, which is located on the campus of LSU.

Also for Mt. Hermon, Tyre Brumfield was seventh in the 200 at 26.93.
